Re: The Kinks
Yep

I meant to include Muswell Hillbillies and I agree - that 6 album run including Face to Face as well were an amazing set of albums in their own right

Re: The Kinks
Actually, you might add Face to Face to the front of that list.

Exactly right about Pye, but I think you underestimate Sleepwalker, Misfits, Low Budget - they were certainly their most commercially successful. And ignoring Muswell Hillbillies is a CRIME.

I don't think any band ever equalled their consecutive run of:

Something Else
Village Green
Arthur
Lola
Muswell Hillbillies

At the time, none of 'em sold worth a bean!!!!!!

Oh and obviously the Spencer David Group were the tribute band to the Spencer DaviS Group...

Re: The Kinks
All great bands, and clearly all in the same league. But the Kinks were Citeh. All in my very humble opinion, of course.

Re: The Kinks
Good band.... BUT for ME not in the same league as the 'Oo, Small faces, Yardbirds and Spencer David Group.....

Re: The Kinks
One of my favourite bands - but they suffered from being on PYE records who were notorious for promoting singles rather than pushing their albums as a whole like The Beatles were able to do when gaining autonomy with Apple.

The Stones suffered the same fate on Decca until they signed up to Virgin...the first fruits of that union gave us Exile On Main Street - their best album by far.

The last good-ish album by The Kinks was State Of Confusion around 1982 before that it was the Lola/Ape-man one in 1972.

The decade in-between I think Ray Davies had some kind of breakdown/depression thing going on at the time and he put out some stinkers which were basically Solo projects under The Kinks name...

'Saw them live in 1990 at alley pally.

left the gig half way through the kinks set.'

I'm not surprised, UK Jive and Phobia are fucking horrible. The last knockings of a tired, spent force.

Incidentally, I was there that night, too. The Kinks were poor but Woody's The Voice of the Beehive were fucking dire.

I hear the Beatles were going to get together again but I reckon they should just let it be

I did hear a rumour that Thunderclap Newman might make a comeback, but it's probably just something in the air.

Too hetero, mate. Lola would be more likely if the BBC have anything to do with it ;)
